The requirements of Approved Document E (2003) of the Building Regulations apply to the sound insulation performance of separating walls and floors, the sound insulation of internal walls and floors, the control of reverberation inside communal areas and acoustic conditions within schools (BB93).
The regulations also require residential properties to have pre-completion sound insulation testing (PCT) undertaken in order to demonstrate compliance with the performance requirements detailed within Section 0 of Approved Document E (2003).
However, an alternative for new-build sites is available in the form of the Robust Standard Details (RSDs). The RSD scheme has provided several different types of construction which should attain the required level of sound insulation between buildings.
Our qualified team of acousticians can provide design advice in order to ensure your construction achieves the performance standards required. Many clients are now opting to utilise our 'design & test' package which enables developers to have a trouble free passage for achieving sign-off
